First Week of February

  • I think I may have sprained my waist - again during my run on saturday. It hurt throughout my entire run today. The run was better. Had some 7 minute runs and the entire run was 35 minutes. I run again on wednesday.

  • No running till the weekend.

  • Our run today was 41 minutes. It started well but halfway through, it was my calves and not my waist that were hurting. I'm not sure what is happening to me. I ran longer routes and far better last year without any complaints. This year, its been one complaint or the other. My waist later on joined in the hurting game towards the end of the route. (smile) I think I may need new running shoes. These ones seem to be fast approaching their sell by date. The run today was ok. A bit laborious cos I think my running shoes are getting worn out or maybe my body weight is getting too heavy for me to carry? Time will tell.

I always cringe when i hear of any injury, hope you feel better soon

Thanks Abimars. The silly waist is always ok until I start running so I'm beginning to think it may have something to do with the cushioning of my shoes. Will replace them ASAP.

Yeah.. check out your shoes. Where'd you get them from?

I went for a nice long run with Vickii today - 1hr 33mins. That's 4.5 WW activity points... I am trying to figure out what I can eat to make sure I don't have a total of less than 15 points!

Try WW CG... :-)

Take care of yourself... if you start to feel like somewhere hurts... stop!

Just a thought on running shoes, do you get your shoes from a specialist store where they watch you running first b4 deciding what type of a runner you are and then recommend the best type of running shoes for you. It makes such a big difference.

Calabar Gal said...

@LB: They are long overdue for an assistant. Got them online donkey years ago. Joined WW.

@Abimars: Got these ones online but had a test at the Bluewater race so I know what sort of running shoes to go for.

LondonBuki said...

Yay! You joined WW :-) :-) :-)

Keep us updated and let me know if you have any questions... okay?(Don't mind me, I am feeling like a WW adviser, my aunt just joined 2 weeks ago and I am trying to help her with any questions she has to make it even easier for her :-)... )

I get my shoes from Runner's Need(I go to the one in Holborn)... I hope these shoes work well for you, next time try a specialist store... they have time for you try as many shoes as you want(different brands as well).

I need to get new shoes actually... end of this month...

Hmmmn, I'm beginning to think WW is stalking me, lol, goodluck with it CG
@londonbuki: what a strange coincidence I have a gait analysis at the Runners need in Canary wharf booked

LondonBuki said...

Where are you?
How's your WW going?

Calabar Gal said...

@belema: Na wa for you oh! You ask us to chec out ur blog and we get there and discover its for 'invited' readers only. So where is my invitation? Pls send it to

@LB: Not yet taken off. Lazy, Lazy - I know!

@Abimars: All this talk about Runners Need made me have a look at their website and I went along for the Shoe Party @ Canary Wharf yesterday. Had a gait analysis too.

Abimars said...

I went for my gait analysis on Monday, didn't find out about the shoe party untill I got there, was it fun?

Risquediva said...

eya pele oh but i am looking for a joggin partner too oh

Calabar Gal said...

@Abimars: Well, I guess a shoe party is basically having your gait analysis done and then you buy your shoes and get somefree gifts and leave. All I did was the first item - the rest I save for the end of the month. (smile)

@Risquediva: U could cajole a friend who lives near you to go running with you. Or put up an advert on Gumtree - the find a running partner parts in the Sports section. Thats how my runing partner found me - through gumtree. I'm sure there is a Gumtree equivalent in the US.

oh yes true,!! but hw goes it so far? lol am being so

I hope you are felling better. I two also cringe when I hear of injuries. I have had 8 knee surgeries, and other various minor injuries.
A few thoughts:
(1) if the injuries feel minor, I have been told that this is common when running.
(2) Should check out the shoes. When I was running for my first half, I started having injury issues and some insoles, solved my pains.
(3) Nutrition?

Wow, I am in such awe of what you and LondonBuki are doing. Hope the shoes are the solution and the hurting stops.

Goodluck and I hope WW works out well for you.

@Fatmanrunning: 8 knee surgeries! Hope you are better now. My injuries I'm sure are contributed by my running shoes. Been ruinning in them consistently almost 18months now. So they need to go. I know my nutrition last yr was crap with me being on Atkins. Hope to see an improvement when I start again with different nutrition.

@Gbemi's Piece: LOL! Thats how I used to feel too when I read LB's posts. Used to cheer her on and didnt believe I would be one day joining her and actually running too. Running is lovely. I'm glad I joined in the fun.
